Does anyone have twitter in here? Or do you know about twitter?

Post 2 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Friday, 16-Jan-2009 23:06:57

I have many friends who use Twitter. All are on my LiveJournal friends list and it drives me crazy when they post their twitterings in their ljs. They're very difficult/annoying to skim through using the tab key and many times, they're too visual for me to understand. But that's all up to the poster who chooses the written content in the posts. Anyway, from what I know about it, you have to upload photos on it. I don't think you can use it like Facebook to just write quick things, but I could be wrong.

I use Twitter very frequently. It's probably the social network I use most.

I use Twitter, just not much lately because I just haven't felt like it.
How do you make your Twittter Tweets appear on a Live Journal? I would like to do that.

I'm aware of Twitter, but first of all, this computer is shared, so I'm not always available to share every little thought when it happens. Second, and more important, I'm a long-winded writer, so something with a 140-character limit just would not suit me.

Post 7 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Saturday, 17-Jan-2009 6:08:16

I use twitter, and rather like it. And no, photos are not what you have to upload. I do agree if people use twitter and post it to their lj they should put it behind a cut though. Another nice thing I can do with twitter is use it to update my facebook status. IT's fun to hear about what your friends are doing through the day, and let them know if you're doing something interesting. You only get 140 characters, so it's not like you can write a novel. You can get twitter updates sent to your phone, or view them on the website. Hope that somewhat answered your possible questions.

If you don't wish to use the web site, there are twitter clients. I use one for the Mac called Twitterriffic. On my Ubuntu box, I use something called Twitux. On my Icon, I use the site called m.slandr.net to manage tweets. If you wish to update many social networks at once, I suggest getting an account on This handy service. I think you can update ping.fm via web posting, sms, and some of the instant messengers.

Yes, I use Twitter quite often, and love it. When I first heard about it a few months back, it sounded lame. But as I started reading the Twitters of friends, I thought it would be worth trying for awhile, and now I'm hooked.

Tifanitsa, no, you don't have to upload photos at all. In fact, there's very little that's visual about it, and it's far more accessible than Myspace or Facebook. Granted, you can do a lot more with those other two website.

And to the person who asked about clients to upload Twitters to LJ. My friend who does that uses an application called LoudTwitter. I don't know much about it myself, but you could at least research it.

My evolution as a twitterer is much like that described in message #11. That is, a friend told me of Twitter and even showed me Twitter in action on his talking smart phone. My initial reaction was "what a stupid concept". LOL. Two weeks later, I signed up, and now, I'm a compulsive tweeter. It's the most accessible social network out there.

Post 13 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 24-Jan-2009 8:14:41

I neglected to say that the most inaccessible part of Twitter is the captcha when you first sign up. But if you have Firefox and Webvism, you can get past that. I also think there's an audio work around, though of course it's extremely distorted. Also, speaking of accessibility, the LoudTwitter client I mentioned must be, because the friend of mine who uses it is totally blind and a JAWS user.

Sounds kinda pointless to me. Although I'm not a huge fan of the social networks. The ones I'm in to the most are Zonebbs, and Cafemom.

I got twitter, but I'm more of a LJ person or a Facebook person. twitter just doesn't cut it for me.

My Twitter network gets a grade of 89/100 from egrader. That's a pretty powerful network, but what power do I have? I posed the question on Twitter and am awaiting answers from my followers.

Post 19 by turricane (happiness and change are choices ) on Friday, 13-Feb-2009 16:24:25

would someone please explain to this social retard what twitter is? from i understand it is where people follow you around or something? my first question is why would someone want to do that? and the second one is who cares what I am doing? Please shine the light of understanding in to the dark void of my empty brain.

Hi, all. I figured that instead of creating a new topic, I'd just add to this one. Have any of you heard of a program called Jawter? It's still in beta, but it's a set of scripts meant to turn JAWS itself into a Twitter client. A lot of my blind friends like it, but I haven't tried it yet. I'm going to try to make this link clickable, so you can learn more about it if you want to. It's the link to the blog of the guy that invented Jawter, and I think at the bottom of his blog entry, there's a link to download it, and instructions for installing it. So, here it is:

I have an account but haven't used it since last June.
I really don't see the point of having more than 1 or 2 social networks.

Where's the register link or something on the home page of the twitter web site? i can't find it.

Post 26 by choco ice cream (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 23-Feb-2009 4:29:00

Hi Joanne,
It is a join link not register. I want to create an account there, but I can't pass the captia.

Post 27 by Shadow_Cat (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 23-Feb-2009 5:51:11

There is an audio work-around for the Captcha. I passed it before I ever had Firefox. It's a little hard to understand, so you might need a couple tries, but it's doable.
